Twitter Employees Who Disapproved of Elon Musk Gets Fired

In his third week as owner of the social media company, Elon Musk continued to reduce Twitter’s workforce by firing workers who had criticized him and eliminating contractors.

Making Some Changes

Three people with knowledge of the situation stated that Mr. Musk’s team ordered the firing of roughly twenty Twitter employees who had resisted him both publicly and privately. The billionaire, who last month finalized a $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, later verified the resignations on the website and made fun of the departing workers.

For the Better

The firings came after over the weekend, Twitter made cuts to its contract workforce. Five people with knowledge of the situation said that many of the contractors, who worked on content moderation and data science, were fired without warning.

Since Mr. Musk has painted a dismal picture of Twitter’s finances, he has moved quickly to transform it. This month, he fired half of the company’s 7,500 employees while pressuring the remaining staff to build and release new products as soon as possible.
